Negative Shapes

Good morning!  Hope you enjoyed your holiday yesterday.  I know I did.  I'm just counting down the days until I get a week off for vacation. I don't have any plans to go any where, but it will be nice just to be able to have the time off.

Connie, who has Midwest Stampers, issued a challenge to use the negative shapes from punches in your art. You know what I mean - not the punched piece, but the piece that's left.

Anyway, here is one of my entries:

The white cardstock is what was left when I punched out the fern. I made a border using my Scor-It, then layered it onto a piece of glossy cardstock that I had made using the fossil stone technique. Stamped "thinking of you" (stamp by The Angel Company), added a little bling and I was done.  The picture isn't real sharp, but you get the idea.

Envelope Art

I love to stamp!  I should belong to a 12-step program for stampers.  Seriously, I just love to stamp. I like to try out new techniques, and I've been known to take a technique and tweak it and come up with something completely different.  And I'm not afraid to get my hands messy.  :-)

So, not only do I make cards (and candles, etc.), I also stamp on my envelopes sometimes.  Today I would like to share a couple that I made this weekend.

The first one uses pastel ink and shadow stamps. I stamped the front as well as the back of the envelope. The colors here don't do the envelope justice, it's very pretty in person.

 This envelope is a little bolder. Again, I stamped the front and back of the envelope. I used a shadow stamp for the addresses.

Acrylic Paint Background

I love messing around with acrylic paints, and make a lot of my card backgrounds with them.

I usually thin the paint out a bit then smoosh it on the cardstock.  You can use an old credit card to move the paint around, as well as combs and other household items.  I usually just sponge mine on.

The stamp is from The Angel Company, and is stamped on glossy cardstock that has had alcohol ink applied.  I tore the edges.  I used the polka dot ribbon and the buckle to add a little interest.  This ended up being a birthday card for my brother-in-law.

Herringbone Card

I love the background of this card.  It's called a herringbone background, and a great way to get rid of scraps.  It was fairly easy to make, and looks fabulous in person.

I put double sided tape (I used carpet tape) on cardstock, then cut my strips into uniform widths.  You just start laying them down in a herringbone pattern (you can get the idea from my card), and trim off the excess.

Then I stamped and colored Miss Kitty (available from My Paper Moon) and layered it on my card.

Sympathy Card

I recently had occasion to make a sympathy card.  I had my Hero Arts butterfly stamps on my desk, so I figured I'd give it a go.  Here is the result:

The blue background is textured. I colored the butterflies with Twinkling H2O's.  I also put some twinks on the centers of the flowers, then spritzed with water and let it bleed outward towards the petals.  

I was pleased with the result.  So much so that I decided to make a "thinking of you" card.  By changing the background paper to bright colors I think I was able to pull it off. This could also be used for a birthday or get well card.

Another Birthday Card

Good afternoon!  Just wanted to pop in and share another birthday card I recently made...

The stamps are from The Angel Company.  This was a really nice company, and I'm sad that they are no longer in business.  I printed out the ticket and tucked it behind the band.  Quick and easy card for someone special.

Hope you are enjoying your summer.  We've been doing quite a bit of weekend camping, and it keeps me busy.

Birthday Card for Hubby

Good afternoon!  May is our month for birthdays. My hubby, my stepson, and 2 of my granddaughters have May birthdays, along with myself. My daughter says May is almost as bad as Christmas.  Throw in Mother's Day and my anniversary, and well, it does get pretty expensive...

This is a card I made for my darling hubby for his birthday.

It uses a Cuttlebug embossing folder and a stamp from My Paper Moon. After running the white cardstock through the Cuttlebug and embossing it, I sponged some light green dye inks on the cardstock, then diluted some gold acrylic paint and put a little of that on it.  You can't see it from the scan, but there is a gold sheen to parts of the background.

I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of white cardstock, and again, sponged some dye inks on it to make it match the embossed background.  I used pop dots to raise it up on another piece of cardstock, which I cut a little larger.  I mounted that on some mulberry paper and glued it to the background.  Adhered the whole thing to a piece of yellow cardstock, and called it done.
