The Galaxy

Happy Friday!

This week I was watching some videos and I fell in love with this cool "galaxy" technique.  Below are the fruits of my labor.

This was the first card I made. Both cards use the same technique.

I used 5 colors of ink on watercolor paper.  I started off in the middle with a distress pad in Wild Honey.  Leaving a little of that in the middle, I moved on to Memento ink Lilac Posies and sponged that around the Wild Honey.  Then I sponged some Dusty Concord distressed ink around the Lilac Posies. The next sponging was Faded Jeans distress ink, and finally, Tuxedo Black memento ink around the outside.  

Once all those were dry, I spritzed with water, which gives you the lighter spots. When the water was dry I splattered some white acrylic paint on the background, but it was too thick and I got blobs. Which I now call comets or meteors.  :-)  I also added some splatters of gold Smooch ink, but they don't show up very well in the scan.  

For the saying, I just sponged white cardstock with the light colors I used for the background, then stamped the saying.  I stamped the moon, colored it with spectrum noir markers, cut it out and adhered it with a pop dot.  I really like the way it turned out, even the comets.  :-)

This is my second attempt.  I did everything exactly the same, but I watered down the acrylic paint so I didn't get blobs, and I used a different moon stamp. And I put the saying on the inside of the card.

This may be my new favorite technique.

Birthday Card

It's been awhile since I've posted, so I wanted to share with you a card I made for my daughter's birthday, which is tomorrow, March 29th.

I usually make plain, simple, mailable cards, without a lot of bling and lumpy/bumpy stuff, but since I get to hand-deliver this card I was able to "bling it out."

Purple is her favorite color, so I used that color predominantly when making the card.  I was able to put jewels and pearls on the card, and the dragonflies (TAC)  have glitter and gems.  I dyed the flowers to match the purple ink (distress inks that I spritzed with water). The saying is from a set of clear Fiskars stamps.

 I think she'll like it.

Matchbook Card

I had fun making this card. I used a red cardstock, which I sprayed with gold webbing spray. I stamped the letters f, r, i, e, n, and d on red textured cardstock with black ink, using typewriter stamps, and punched them out. I then covered them with crystal lacquer and let them dry.

While the letters were drying, I took some clip art and went over it with "Old Paper" distress ink to give it an aged look, and burned the edges.

I folded the cardstock, which was cut into 12" x 4-1/4" so that there was about 1-1/2" flap on the bottom, and then folded the top so that it just barely goes behind the flap. I used the Scor-It board to make scores on the flap, and then put a brown in to age it. I used a "stitch" stamp to stamp between the scores for more texture and highlighted the scores with a darker brown ink.

After the letters dried, I adhered them to the cardstock, along with the image of the lady sitting in the chair.

I cut a piece of white cardstock slighly smaller than the inside of the card, and put it behind the flap and stapled it (so I will have something to stamp the sentiment on inside the card).

Viola! Done. A very easy card that looks very aged.
